The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid is a 9/11 novel, written from the perspective of Changez, a young Pakistani whose sympathies, despite his fervid immigrant embrace of America, lie with the attackers. The book unfolds as a monologue that Changez delivers to a mysterious American operative over dinner at a Lahore, Pakistan, cafe.

I thought the premise of the book was interesting and could generate some interesting discussion. We have many immigrant students who understand the challenges of living in two worlds.
I liked the way it was written as a one-way dialog. However, the deep love that Erica had for her former lover may be hard for some of the younger students to relate to well.
